"Our energy costs at Waycold are like every other facility -- second only to labor costs. It seemed the busier we got, the higher the bill. We could attribute much of the cost to the high traffic, because most of the work day our doors were opening and closing constantly. It was like there was no barrier at all between our -14° freezer and 34° dock."
"On occasion my fork lift drivers would just prop open the inefficient hard door -- totally wide open -- and that continuous air infiltration really juiced up our power bills! But that all changed when we installed HCR. Our energy costs decreased significantly."

The significance of infiltration air, as reported by the ASHRAE Research Project 362-RP, declares that infiltration air accounts for 50% or more of the refrigeration load that taxes a refrigerated system.
The energy benefits of an HCR unit can be significant, especially for high-traffic doorways. When open and close cycles on a rigid cold storage door reach a certain point, it is no longer an effective thermal alternative. With increasing open and close cycles, more natural air exchange occurs, causing unwanted air infiltration and increasing ice build-up. Subsequently, additional defrost cycles are required for your refrigeration unit. HCR units are always open for accessibility, yet always closed for constant thermal protection.
In addition, HCR units require very little electric to operate, employing a small blower unit and occasionally a heater, depending on the application.
